At first glance, two aluminium mobile scaffolds can look almost identical.
They might be the same height, use a similar frame design and have platforms that look much the same. But once they're in use, one may feel solid and rigid while another has noticeably more movement or flex.
So, what makes the difference?
One important factor is the wall thickness of the aluminium used to manufacture the scaffold frames.
Why Wall Thickness Matters
Aluminium scaffold frames are made from hollow aluminium sections. Wall thickness refers to the thickness of the aluminium forming the outside of those sections.
A thicker, well-designed section can provide greater rigidity and better resistance to dents and deformation, helping the scaffold feel more solid when assembled without adding excessive weight.
Wall thickness isn't the only factor that affects scaffold performance. Frame design, bracing, connections and overall tower geometry all play a part. However, the amount of aluminum used in the structural frame is an important part of the overall build quality.
How Easy Access Compares
For Easy Access, scaffold quality starts with the material itself.
Our NZ-made scaffolding is manufactured using quality aluminium that is sourced, processed and manufactured here in New Zealand. This gives us greater control over the material and manufacturing process from start to finish.
That focus on material quality carries through to the wall thickness of our scaffold frames.
| Scaffold Type | Aluminium Wall Thickness |
|---|---|
| H-Frame Scaffold | 3.35 mm |
| Mobi Scaffold | 2.3 mm |
| Mini Mobile & Foldaway Scaffold | 2.3 mm |
| Typical Imported Scaffold | 2 mm |
It's a difference that may not be obvious in a product photo, but it can contribute to how rigid, durable and solid a scaffold feels in everyday use.
What Should You Look For?
Height, platform size, load rating and price are easy to compare on a specification sheet. What's harder to see is what's underneath: the aluminium wall thickness, how the frame is engineered and the quality of the manufacturing behind it.
Those details become more noticeable over time through repeated transport, assembly and everyday use on site.
When you're investing in a scaffold, it's worth looking beyond the basic specifications. A well-built scaffold should feel solid underfoot, stand up to regular site use and give you confidence every time you climb it.
That's what we build our Easy Access scaffolds for.
